In my photography I have focused on portraiture. I use photography as a way to document the world, and to call attention to things that are overlooked. My intention is to explore ideas through the lens of my camera, and bring them to light. It is a way of opening new doors, relationships, new beginnings, and new worlds. I am interested in making a portrait of a single moment in time permanent, before it is lost to memory. For my capstone project, my choice of subject matter was fueled by a strong sense of curiosity about the human body as a portrait. I am interested in how much information does one need to understand my subjects in an abstracted, and modern way. This exploration of the material body has helped me understand more about the figure, and the gestures we all make. I simplify my images through lighting and composition, into photographs of contrasting light and shadow. Our bodies carry us through everyday life. In this series of work, I strive to make my photographs of the body powerful and dynamic in a new way.
